Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has moved the Delhi High Court, challenging a Saket court order which rejected her plea seeking interim custody of Henry, a pet Rottweiler dog she purportedly co-owned with her former partner Jai Anant Dehadrai.
In its November 10, 2025 order, the Saket court had rejected Moitra’s plea seeking Henry’s interim custody for 10 days every month.
However, the TMC MP approached the Delhi High Court against the trial order, arguing that it was bad in law and fact. She contended that the order failed to consider that Henry always lived with her except for the time when she went out of station.
She further stated, “The impugned order does not record any finding that the Defendant/Respondent [Dehadrai] is the owner of the dog, and wrongly considers that payment is sufficient to show ownership, when there is specific evidence filed with the plaint, and not contradicted, that the pet was paid for by the Respondent on behalf of the Appellant.”
Hearing Moitra’s plea, Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri issued notice to her former partner advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai and sought his response. The High Court posted the matter for further hearing on April 2.
Moitra and Dehadrai’s relationship ended on a bitter note after the latter accused her of accepting a bribe from businessman Darshan Hiranandani for asking questions in Parliament.
The allegations led to an inquiry against her by the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee that subsequently suggested her removal from the Lok Sabha. Based on the inquiry committee’s recommendations, she was expelled from Parliament on December 8, 2023.
