The anti-graft Vigilance Wing of Odisha police on Thursday caught red-handed a woman police inspector, heading a police station in Koraput district, while accepting monetary gratification from a relative of an undertrial prisoner for submission of the case diary in the court.

Sukma Hansdah, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a relative of the accused to submit the Case Diary in the Court in a case registered earlier in the said police station, of which she was the Investigating Officer.

The accused was lodged in judicial custody, and the court had called for the case diary in the case. To produce the case diary and enable bail, Hansdah demanded a bribe from the relative of the accused, who reported the matter to Vigilance authorities, said the Vigilance directorate in a statement.

Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid wherein the accused, Hansdah, was nabbed by the team of Odisha Vigilance inside the Dasmantpur Police Station premises for demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) of Rs 20,000 from a relative of the accused. The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from the possession of the accused in the presence of witnesses. Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential government quarter of Hansdah at Dasmantpur and her office chamber. The accused, Hansdah, was later arrested under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and was forwarded to the court, the statement concluded.
