Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to receive Brazil’s highest honour, the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross. This prestigious award underscores the strong and growing relationship between India and Brazil.
PM Modi recently received a grand welcome in Brasília, Brazil, which included a unique 114-horse ceremonial procession at the Alvorada Palace.
The ceremony featured a ceremonial guard of honour and the playing of the national anthems of both countries. Members of the Indian community in Brazil were also present to greet the Prime Minister.
The visit marks a significant milestone in India’s efforts to deepen engagement with Latin America.
PM Modi will hold bilateral discussions with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to broaden the Strategic Partnership between the two nations in areas of mutual interest, including trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people linkages.
This is not the first time PM Modi has received international recognition. He has been conferred with several prestigious awards, including Grand Cross of the Order of Honour from Greece (2023), Legion of Honour from France (2023), Order of St Andrew from Russia (2024), Order of the Republic from Trinidad and Tobago (2025), and Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean from Mauritius (2025)
These honours reflect PM Modi’s global leadership and his efforts to strengthen India’s relationships across the world.
