Clashes between BJP supporters of a MLA and a block chief during a GST reform workshop at the Block Auditorium in the Katra Bazar police station area of the Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday culminated into a fierce exchange of sticks, bricks, and stones leaving several BJP workers on both sides injured.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Abhishek Devachya said here that a rivalry had been brewing between the current BJP MLA Bawan Singh and Bhawani Bhik Shukla, a representative of Block Chief Jugraji Shukla since the 2022 Assembly elections. When a BJP workers’ workshop on the GST reforms was being held at the Block Auditorium, supporters of both parties, who had arrived at the venue with a plan to settle scores with each other, began fighting with each other after an altercation.

Several vehicles parked at the scene of the clashes were damaged. The DSP stated that police arrived at the scene upon receiving information and provided treatment to those injured in the incident. Currently, efforts are underway to maintain peace between both parties. People have been placed under house arrest. Legal action will be taken after receiving the complaint.

BJP District General Secretary Ashish Tripathi said that the information about the case has been given to the party high command. After investigation, action will be taken against the culprits for indiscipline by the party.
