The BJP has retained its seat in the by polls of Gangoh constituency as party candidate Keerat Singh defeated his nearest rival Nooman Masood of Congress by a margin of 5362 votes.

However, the margin of victory for the BJP has shrunk in this election as compared to 2017 in spite of the campaigning by CM Yogi Adityanath twice. In 2017, the margin of victory for BJP candidate Pradeep Chaudhary was over 38, 000 while this time it is 5362.

In all, 11 candidates had contested on Gangoh seat of the assembly in this election. While Congress candidate Nomaan Masood finished second, Samajwadi Party candidate Indersain bagged the third position followed by BSP candidate Ch Irshad.

Showing his dismay over the result, Congress candidate Masood has accused the district administration of working as an agent of the ruling BJP. He said that democracy has been assassinated in this election and hence he would be registering a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard.

District magistrate Alok Kumar Pandey rejected the charges and said a fair election was conducted in the presence of observers and agents of all political parties.

BJP candidate Keerat Singh got 68, 237 votes while Nooman Masood of Congress got 62, 875 votes. Ch Indersain of the SP got 57, 352 and Ch Irshad of BSP got 32, 269.

Masood was maintaining a lead since the beginning and his margin to nearest rival Keerat Singh became over 14, 000 votes till the 18th round of counting. Till the end of 21 rounds, the margin got reduced to 10, 000 and in the succeeding two rounds, it was still 9000. Supporters of Massod were confident of his victory but the situation turned against him in the final few rounds resulting in the victory of Keerat Singh.
