The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a swipe at Congress over a remark by the party’s star campaigner in Telangana who equated Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a terrorist.

Addressing a rally in Shamshabad on Saturday, actor-turned-politician Vijayashanti said that the PM “looks like a terrorist”.

“Everyone is scared that at what moment Modi will shoot the bomb. He looks like a terrorist. Instead of loving people, he is scaring people. It’s not the way how a PM should be,” said the 52-year-old Congress campaigner in Telugu.

Party chief Rahul Gandhi had addressed the gathering after time Vijayashanti’s remark.

The comment invited sharp criticism from the BJP.

“Now Congress is truly raising concerns & worries of terrorists in Pakistan. Welcome to New India. Yeh Dar Acha Hai,” a tweet posted from the official handle of the party read.

Vijayashanti was with the BJP for around 10 years before she floated her own party. After a brief stint with Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), with which her party got merged, Vijayashanti switched allegiances to Congress in 2014.

Speaking at the rally after Vijayashanti, the Congress president accused Modi of creating “two Indias”.

“For the last five years, he (Modi) is making two Indias. In the first India, wealthy people like Anil Ambani travel in private planes. In the second India, farmers beg with folded hands for loan waiver while Finance Minister Arun Jaitley says that there is no policy of waving farm loans,” the Congress chief alleged.
