Sharad Pawar-led NCP Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule posted on X a letter she wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday, alleging that the BJP has admitted some individuals who were allegedly involved in the smuggling of narcotic drugs.
However, BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban responded to Sule’s letter by accusing the Sharad Pawar-led NCP of providing political patronage to those accused of narcotics trafficking.
“Yesterday, some people from Tuljapur city were admitted to the BJP. It was reported that the accused in the drug smuggling case in the city were also included in this. I was surprised that they joined the BJP in the presence of responsible leaders. Along with this, I was equally worried to see that drug smuggling is getting political patronage. In a democratic system, every political party has the right to expand its organisation, and there is no reason to disagree with that. But at the same time, everyone working in public life also has the moral responsibility to prevent any undesirable, anti-social tendency.”
“You are the CM of Maharashtra, and you have many tasks before you. Therefore, perhaps this news may not have reached you, or you may not have been informed about the background of the person involved in drug smuggling. I am writing this letter to you based on the assumption that you are not aware of it. We are all with you in the fight against narcotic drugs, keeping the interests of society in mind. I had informed you in this regard in an earlier letter,” Supriya Sule wrote to Fadnavis.
She urged Fadnavis to take appropriate action against those responsible and send out a positive message to society against drug-related activities.
“We expect you to pay serious attention to this incident in Tuljapur and take appropriate action against those concerned. This issue is very important in sending a positive message to society that drug smuggling will not be given patronage in Maharashtra, and to strengthen the anti-drug campaign. I hope you will take due note of this,” NCP MP Supriya Sule stated.
Reacting to Sharad Pawar-led NCP MP Supriya Sule’s letter, BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban said, “It was Sharad Pawar’s NCP that provided political protection to narcotics trafficking in Maharashtra.”
“As long as the accused in the Tuljapur drug smuggling case was in the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, he was given patronage — until he joined the BJP. Supriya Sule has written a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alleging that drug smuggling is getting political patronage. If such complaints were to be made about the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, there would be a shortage of paper to write letters. Supriya Sule has conveniently forgotten that the accused was in the Sharad Pawar-led NCP until yesterday, ” BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Hitting back at Supriya Sule, BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban said, “The BJP does not support any accused. Action will definitely be taken against whoever is found guilty in the Tuljapur drug smuggling case.”
