Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh and newly appointed Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon began the campaign with a visit to Sri Harmandir Sahib, where they offered prayers and sought blessings for peace, prosperity and development in Punjab.
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Chugh said the party had chosen Amritsar as the starting point of its latest political programme because of its historical and spiritual significance. He said senior BJP leader Nitin Nabin is scheduled to visit Punjab on June 20, when the party’s state-wide campaign will be formally expanded.
Positioning the BJP’s campaign around issues affecting the state, Chugh alleged that Punjab continues to grapple with challenges such as drug abuse, organised crime and corruption. He claimed that the present dispensation had failed to effectively tackle these concerns. He asserted that the BJP would make governance, public safety and economic growth central themes of its political programme.
The BJP leader said the party aims to present itself as an alternative focused on development and accountability. He maintained that Punjab requires policies that can generate employment opportunities, strengthen institutions and restore public confidence in governance.
Referring to the legacy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Chugh said his administration is remembered for stability and inclusive governance. Drawing a parallel with that vision, he said the BJP seeks to promote a system where the rule of law is upheld, and development benefits reach all sections of society.
Dhillon said the party would intensify efforts to strengthen its grassroots network across Punjab and increase engagement with the public. He said BJP workers would reach out to people in different regions of the state, understand local issues and raise them at appropriate forums.
According to Dhillon, the party’s focus in the coming months will be on expanding its organisational presence and building public support through direct interaction with voters. He expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge as a stronger political force in Punjab with the support of its cadre and leadership.
The two leaders said the party’s objective was not limited to electoral gains but also included contributing to Punjab’s long-term progress and stability. They called upon party workers to actively participate in the campaign and take the BJP’s message to every section of society.
Chugh also announced that the BJP intends to contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab on its own whenever elections are held, signalling the party’s determination to strengthen its independent political footprint in the state. He said the June 20 programme in Amritsar would mark the next phase of the campaign and help accelerate the party’s outreach efforts across Punjab.
