Ahead of the local body elections, the BJP in Kerala is planning to reach out to the Muslim community in the state. Announcing the details of the outreach programme at a press conference here on Friday, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said its aim is not political, but a trust building initiative.

“The aim is to unite the minorities and this is not being started to garner votes. It also aims to demolish the lies that the BJP is against the Muslim community,” Rajeev Chandrasekhar said.

He further said that the programme would be carried out under the leadership of party’s state vice president Abdul Salam. As part of the programme, all Muslim homes will be visited by BJP workers.

“When Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, he had said that the Constitution was his “guiding document” and that he would work for everybody. “Sabka saath, sabka vikaas is what he said. The BJP in Kerala wants to convey the same message to the Muslim community in the state,” he added.
