Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appears to be in panic after public outrage over her “dancing at a carnival with celebrities” while North Bengal struggled with floods and landslides, leaving many dead and thousands homeless.
He alleged that the TMC resorted to using local goons to target BJP MPs and MLAs to prevent them from providing relief. “Mamata Banerjee cannot intimidate the BJP,” Adhikari said .
BJP IT chief Amit Malviya posted on X that the attack was part of the TMC’s “jungle raj” in Bengal. He said, “Khagen Murmu was attacked by TMC goons while on his way to Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri’s Dooars region to help with relief and rescue operations after devastating rains and floods.
”While Mamata Banerjee attended a carnival in Kolkata, the TMC and state administration were absent from the relief efforts. Those genuinely helping the people, like BJP leaders and workers, are being targeted for doing relief work. This is TMC’s Bengal, where cruelty prevails and compassion is punished.”
As per the latest information available, till now 20 people have been reportedly killed and several others injured in the hills following the torrential rains and landslides.
According to reports by the NDRF and the district administration, deaths were reported from several locations — Sarsaly, Jasbirgaon, Mirik Basti, Dhar Gaon (Mechi), Nagrakata, and Mirik Lake area.
