Welcoming the acquital of Pragya Singh Thakur and six other accused in the Malegaon bomb blast case, ruling BJP MLA from Bhopal, Rameshwar Sharma demanded on Thursday that all those people who deliberately and maliciously coined the ‘Bhagva Terrorism’ term must publicly apologise now.
Pragya Singh Thakur was the BJP Lok Sabha Member from Bhopal in the previous Lok Sabha. She had defeated former MP CM and present Congress Rajya Sabha Member Digvijaya by a huge margin of more than 3.5 lakh votes.
Pragya Thakur lives in Bhopal.
Coming out in her support, MLA Rameshwar Sharma accused Digvijaya Singh of fabricating the ‘bhagva terrorism’ term just to divert attention from the real terrorists and anti-national elements.
“Hindus were never, are not, and will never be terrorists,” Sharma asserted.
He demanded that Digvijaya Singh and the Congress must now publicity apologise to the Hindus.
A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) at Mumbai on Thursday acquited all seven accused, including Pragya Thakur, in the Malegaon bomb blast case.
On 29 September 2008, six Muslims were killed and more than 100 other persons were injured in a bomb blast near a Mosque in Malegaon town of Maharashtra.
During investigations, seven prime accused were listed, including Pragya Thakur, as invetigators claimed that her bike was used to strap a bomb that exploded. Pragya Thakur was arrested in October 2008, on charges of terrorism.
The investigation of the case was subsequently handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2011.
At the hearing of the case in a Special NIA Court at Mumbai in April this year, the NIA sought the strictest punishment, which could also be death penalty, for the accused including Pragya Thakur.
The court had reserved its final verdict for 8 May, but it was subsequently deferred to 31 July.
