BJP’s Kerala blueprint: AIIMS, high-speed rail, and freebies to woo voters

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday unveiled its manifesto for the Kerala Assembly elections 2026, outlining a detailed roadmap for the state’s growth and development.

The manifesto was released by the party’s national president Nitin Nabin and state party chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Several senior leaders of the party’s state unit were also present during the launch event.

If elected to power, the party has promised to develop Thiruvananthapuram as an IT and innovation hub, Kochi as India’s shipbuilding hub, Kozhikode as a centre for healthcare and medical innovation, Thrissur as a cultural tourism capital, Kollam as an internationally competitive blue economy cluster prioritising marine exports, and Kannur as a defence innovation hub.

For the welfare of women, the BJP has announced the Bhakshya Arogya Suraksha card scheme, promising a monthly recharge of Rs 2,500 for medicines and groceries.

On the health and infrastructure front, the manifesto has proposed establishing an AIIMS in Kerala along with a high-speed railway network connecting Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur.

The BJP has also announced freebies to woo voters. Free water supply up to 20,000 litres a month, and two free LPG cylinders — one during Onam and another during Christmas — are among the key manifesto promises.

The manifesto also proposes revamping Devaswom Boards for the management of Sabarimala and Guruvayur.

‘Lotus will bloom in Kerala,’ says BJP chief Nitin Nabin

The saffron party, which has a marginal presence in the state, is making a concerted push to expand its voter base in the South Indian state.

Ahead of the manifesto launch, BJP national president Nitin Nabin expressed full confidence in victory. “This time, the BJP will make the lotus bloom in Keralam,” he said.

Nabin claimed that the BJP’s vote share has increased significantly, rising from 2 per cent to 20 per cent, indicating the party’s growing popularity in the South Indian state.

“The kind of support we are receiving from the people here—having moved from 2% vote share to 20%—shows our progress. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, what was once just ‘Kerala’ now aspires to move forward as a ‘developed Keralam’,” Nabin added.
