Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has once again leveled serious allegations against the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh and alleged that they are giving patronage to the mafias.
Yadav said that the BJP is running a new campaign called “One District, One Mafia,” in which Jaunpur district has become a mafia stronghold. He even called the BJP a “mafia-loving party.”
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Akhilesh Yadav mentioned the scam of cough syrup and its link with Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“They have accused us of promoting mafias before 2017, but now what is happening. Today I have revealed the mafias of Jaunpur, and in the coming days it will be of other districts,” he announced.
Recently, the name of former MP Dhananjay Singh has cropped up in the cough syrup scam. But the former MP had denied the charges and had demanded a CBI probe into the scam.
Akhikesh Yadav, in response to the demand for a CBI probe by the ex MP, quipped, “Where are the bulldozers, as it should be used, not CBI .”
While objecting to the ongoing SIR process, he said that the BJP is trying to destroy democracy and that it is necessary to keep voters’ personal information confidential.
He said, “Through SIR, the BJP is attempting to abolish reservations. This is not only a violation of constitutional rights, but it is also an attempt to take away people’s identities.”
The SP president also alleged that the BJP government is collecting data on all voters, which will be used for electoral strategy and self-interest.
Citing the Constitution, Akhilesh said, “The Constitution has given us the right to vote, and any attempt to take away this right would be an attack on democracy.”
