The BJP held a state-level workshop Monday at its state office under the “Self-Reliant India Pledge” campaign, bringing together senior party leaders and office-bearers to discuss strategies for taking the Swadeshi (indigenous) movement to every voter.
State President and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi said that India will achieve self-reliance through the Swadeshi movement. He recalled the significance of the Swadeshi spirit during India’s freedom struggle, citing the Salt Satyagraha, Quit India Movement, and Dandi March as key moments that inspired the nation. Marandi also highlighted India’s economic history, noting that during the Mauryan period, the country accounted for 33 percent of global GDP, which fell to just 4 percent by 1947 due to colonial exploitation.
State Working President and MP Aditya Sahu said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is rapidly moving towards self-reliance. He noted that 99.2 percent of mobile phones sold in India are made domestically, toy exports have increased by 239 percent, pharmaceutical exports to the US and UK have grown, India ranks sixth in textile exports, and tractor manufacturing has reached the top position globally.
Union Minister Sanjay Seth said the Modi government has turned challenges into opportunities, with the Swadeshi movement gaining momentum nationwide. He highlighted that India now has 192,000 startups, the Navy is self-reliant in indigenous equipment, over six crore MSMEs are operational, and defence exports have risen by 34 percent.
State General Secretary Karmveer Singh said the upcoming assembly conferences between October 10 and 15 would strengthen the Swadeshi movement. State Vice President Vikas Preetam highlighted the complementary role of GST reforms and the Swadeshi campaign, noting that government initiatives to increase consumer purchasing power are boosting the movement.
The workshop was conducted by State General Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, with a vote of thanks delivered by office-bearer Paritosh Soren. Former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, Champai Soren, along with MPs, MLAs, and other state leaders were also present. The BJP plans to hold similar conferences across all assembly constituencies to expand public participation in the Swadeshi movement.
