The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana unit on Monday organised a hunger strike at Indira Park–Dharna Chowk, demanding the immediate release of pending dues to retired employees, serving employees and teachers.
The protest was led by BJP Telangana State President N Ramchander Rao.
A large number of employees and pensioners participated in the protest, raising slogans against the state government’s alleged apathy.
BJP leaders said delays in payment of retirement benefits were causing severe financial and mental distress, forcing several retired employees to run from office to office to claim benefits earned through decades of service.
Addressing the gathering, Ramchander Rao accused the Congress government and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of failing to implement promises made during the Assembly elections.
He alleged that non-payment of retirement benefits had led to extreme hardship among pensioners and cited reports of employees dying due to financial stress and lack of access to medical treatment.
The BJP leader also flagged mounting arrears in fee reimbursement and Aarogyasri payments, alleging that students and patients were being adversely affected due to the government’s failure to clear dues.
He criticised what he described as the government’s “bulldozer-style governance”, accusing it of demolishing houses of the poor while neglecting welfare commitments.
Ramchander Rao warned that thousands of employees are due to retire in the coming months and said continued delays would deepen the crisis. He demanded immediate intervention by the state government and time-bound clearance of all pending dues.
BJP MLAs and MLCs extended solidarity to the protesters. The party asserted that it would intensify its agitation and raise the issue in the Assembly and Legislative Council until the rights of employees and pensioners are protected.
