Attacking the Yogi Adityanath government over miserable conditions in cities during the monsoon, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that loot and corruption are at their peak under the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, and that the government has left the common people to their fate.
“Rampant corruption and a culture of commission prevail in every department, affecting all government work. The BJP government has earmarked funds in the budget in the name of smart cities, but the so-called smart cities, including the capital, Lucknow, remain in poor condition. Widespread potholes and waterlogging pose serious risks to people’s lives. People are dying after falling into open drains,” he alleged.
In a statement on Sunday, the SP President said, “Even after a government expenditure of Rs 20,000 crore, what have the people of Prayagraj received other than waterlogging? The water brimming in the deep pits of corruption exposes the BJP’s scams and frauds.”
Akhilesh Yadav said, “Where are the BJP leaders who ruined the concept of smart cities and have now disappeared with their boats? There is a severe flood situation in many districts of the state. From Prayagraj to Varanasi, thousands of homes are submerged. The government made no prior preparations for flood management, rescue, or relief. The public is in distress, while the engines of the BJP government are busy serving their own interests instead of working for the people,” he remarked.
The SP President said that dozens of districts in the state — including Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Banda, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya, Varanasi, Agra, Etawah, Fatehpur, Kanpur Dehat, and Ballia — are in the grip of floods due to rising river levels and heavy rainfall. Lakhs of people have been affected. Farmers’ crops have been destroyed, and both the common people and livestock are suffering. He alleged that due to the government’s negligence and inefficiency, the affected people have not received any assistance.
“The common people and farmers are disappointed with the BJP government’s attitude, and the public is fed up with the party,” he alleged.
