The BJP on Thursday demanded a thorough investigation into the role of the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti in “promoting” the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and the pro-Pakistan Hurriyat when she was the chief minister of the state.

BJP’s state spokesman, Brigadier Anil Gupta (Retired), in a statement, accused Mehbooba of promoting pro-Pakistan separatist agenda while she was chief minister and “betrayed” the oath of loyalty and secrecy she had taken.

He said that the enquiry should be held into her “role” as CM and the harm she has done to the nation. Based on the findings of the investigation, she should be tried for treason, Gupta demanded. Mehbooba has herself “confessed” that she obstructed the Central Government from acting against the Hurriyat and JeI, said Gupta.

Gupta alleged that Mehbooba “while in Jammu was busy playing divisive and communal politics by attempting to break centuries-old brotherhood, bonding and bonhomie between the Gujjars and Dogras, in Kashmir she was relentlessly working for JeI and pursuing the agenda laid down by Hurriyat”.

The JeI, ever since its inception, has been promoting a pro-Pakistan agenda and questioning the state’s accession with India. It is also responsible for encouraging separatism and terrorism with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) as its armed militant wing, alleged Gupta.

As far as her repeated statements boasting of preventing BJP government at centre from acting against the Hurriyat and Jammat and forcing the release of stone-pelters and cessation of military operations during Ramzan, Gupta said that it was a clear-cut case of betrayal of faith imposed in her by the Central government as the CM of the state.
