On a suspicion of around two lakh illegal Bangladeshi immigrants settling in Bengaluru city, BJP’s Karnataka unit today asked the state government to form the Special Task Force (STF) to identify and deport them immediately.
R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, called for immediate action from the state government, stressing that it is an extremely shocking development. He warned that if the situation continues in this manner, it will inevitably have serious adverse consequences on the law and order of the state.
He further pointed out that 71 suspected Bangladeshi nationals have been taken into custody in the operations conducted by the police over the past week. He highlighted that intruders accused in serious criminal cases, such as human trafficking, are boldly seeking bail in court by using fake Aadhaar cards and passports.
‘Verification has begun,’ says state minister
The Karnataka government has initiated the verification of identity documents of Bangladeshi nationals settled in the state. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has assured that strict action will be taken in case any violation is detected during the exercise. “We have received information about their presence in Bengaluru’s outskirts, including Anekal and nearby areas. This is being verified,” he said.
G. Parameshwara told reporters yesterday that he has asked the Director General and Inspector General of Police MA Saleem and Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh to compile data about Bangladeshi nationals living in the state capital and across the state.
“Police will check where they are living and whether they possess documents. The probe will ascertain how and from where they obtained these documents. They are behaving as if they are not Bangladeshis at all. We will verify this and take necessary action,” he said. He further claimed that the state government has already deported some illegal Bangladeshis.
