BJP National President Nitin Nabin on Monday resigned from his membership of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, about two weeks after being elected to the Rajya Sabha.
Nitin Nabin, a five-time MLA from Patna’s Bankipur constituency, had earlier resigned from the Nitish Kumar cabinet after becoming the BJP’s National Executive President in December 2025. He was holding charge of the Road Construction Department and the Urban Development and Housing Department in the state government.
In January, he became the youngest leader so far to assume the position of BJP National President. Since then, speculation has been rife that he would move to national politics.
Congratulating Nitin Nabin on filing his nomination for the Rajya Sabha election, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had expressed confidence that “after a long and successful political career in the state, he will now make an important contribution in the House as well.”
In an open letter to his constituents and party colleagues, posted on X on Monday, Nabin recalled his political journey, beginning with his first election from Patna West in a 2006 by-poll following his father’s sudden demise. He highlighted his two decades of work in the region, emphasising his commitment to development and the welfare of his constituents.
Nabin expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for entrusting him with ministerial responsibilities, which allowed him to implement key policies and schemes. He also acknowledged the role of party workers and the people of Bihar in guiding and supporting him throughout his political career.
While stepping down from the Assembly seat, Nabin affirmed that he would continue to work for the development of his constituency and Bihar in his new role and pledged to support the vision of a developed Bihar and India by 2047.
