The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh has filed an objection against Congress Rajya Sabha candidate Meenakshi Natarajan, alleging that she deliberately concealed information about a court case in her nomination papers.
The BJP submitted its objection before the Returning Officer at the Madhya Pradesh State Assembly on Tuesday.
According to BJP advocate Sanket Gupta, a case is pending against Meenakshi Natarajan in a court in Hyderabad, Telangana. He alleged that Natarajan failed to disclose details of the case in her nomination documents.
The BJP has demanded that her nomination be cancelled on these grounds.
Rejecting the BJP’s allegations, Congress leaders maintained that Meenakshi Natarajan had only received a notice from the court concerned.
Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Umang Singhar, argued that receiving a court notice is entirely different from being named in an FIR or facing a criminal case.
The final decision on the BJP’s objection is yet to be taken.
