Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said on Thursday people had coined a new term for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling the ruling party ‘Bhaagti Janata Party’. Yadav has said BJP has been named ‘Bhaagti Janata Party’ because it runs away from press meets and whenever journalists ask questions.

In a tweet, Yadav wrote: “Vikas (development) is asking if you have also heard something new? Have heard that people have got a new meaning of the BJP- Bhaagti Janata Party, because pradhan ji runs away from press meets and his leaders run away from questions of journalists, and his party workers run away from public demanding employment.”

He also attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party at a public meeting in Hardoi on Wednesday. Mocking at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying people had voted for a “chaiwala” in 2014, he asked: “As you know the taste of the tea, will you vote for him again?”

He also called the PM a “prachar mantri”, meaning “publicity minister”.

Yadav also hit out at the Congress over its “ego”.

Like the Bharatiya Janata Party, Yadav said during his Kanpur rally, Congress too believed in threatening their political opponents. He said they had an alliance with the Congress but discovered their ego was too big. The Samajwadi Party had an understanding with the Congress in the 2017 UP assembly elections.
