The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced its election team for the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls, naming Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as in-charge, while Gujarat BJP chief C R Patil and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will serve as co-in-charges.

The Election Commission is expected to declare the Bihar poll schedule soon after October 6. Once the notification is issued, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will come into force across the state, barring transfers, postings and the launch of new schemes or government announcements.

The Election Commission has directed the Bihar Chief Secretary and senior officials to complete all transfer and posting formalities by October 6. The measure is a prerequisite to ensure a fair and impartial atmosphere in the administrative set-up before the election dates are announced.

Reports indicate that after the transfer-posting exercise, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is likely to visit Bihar to assess poll preparedness. His visit is likely to pave the way for the official declaration of the election schedule.

Meanwhile, political parties are aggressively campaigning for the upcoming assembly polls. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi unveiled the “Most Backward Justice Manifesto” on Thursday, aimed at empowering backward communities and ensuring their greater participation in politics.

Separately, the BJP leadership also announced responsibilities for other states. BJP National President JP Nadda has appointed Baijayant Panda as the Election Incharge and Maharashtra minister Muralidhar Mohol as the Election Co-Incharge for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, for West Bengal elections, BJP leader Bhupendra Yadav appointed as the party’s election incharge for assembly polls; Biplab Kumar Deb appointed co-incharge.
