BJP leader and Patna Sahib MP Ravi Shankar Prasad strongly countered Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of ‘vote theft’ and asked RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav to apologise for calling the prime minister a liar.
Addressing a press conference in Patna on Sunday, he said that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Samajwadi Party won 37 seats in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP won 33, and Congress secured six. In Maharashtra, Congress won 13 seats, BJP nine, Shiv Sena nine, and NCP eight. He added that the Congress also formed governments in Himachal Pradesh and Telangana.
“Those elections were also conducted by the Election Commission of India. They raise no objection when people vote for them; when they lose, they blame the Election Commission —how can this logic work?” he asked.
Prasad said, “If people do not vote for Rahul Gandhi, what can the Election Commission do? In Haryana, Delhi, and Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP won because the people saw through Rahul Gandhi’s lies.”
He accused the Congress leader of consistently attacking constitutional institutions.
He added: “Today it is the Election Commission; earlier it was ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai.’ He has targeted the Election Commission, the media, the Prime Minister—everyone. But Rahul Gandhi must understand, he cannot say anything he wants and expect the country to simply tolerate it.”
On Tejashwi Yadav, he remarked, “The kind of language he is using for the Prime Minister is unacceptable. The people of this country have elected Narendra Modi as Prime Minister three times. He must apologise for calling the Prime Minister a liar. And Tejashwi Yadav should be careful not to adopt Rahul Gandhi’s ways under his influence.”
