The electoral rolls for Bihar under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision(SIR) drive have seen a significant response, with over 1.6 lakh claims and objections received for inclusion and exclusion, the Election Commission said in its daily press bulletin on Thursday.
According to the latest data, various national and state parties have submitted claims and objections, which are yet to be disposed of by the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) concerned .
Over 1.12 lakh claims and objections have been received from national parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (53,338), Indian National Congress (17,549), and others.
As regards state parties, over 48,000 claims and objections have been received, including the Janata Dal (United) (36,550), Rashtriya Janata Dal (47,506), and others.
Also, over 5,000 claims and objections have been received directly from electors for the inclusion of eligible and exclusion of ineligible electors.
More than 27,000 forms have also been received from new electors who have attained 18 years of age or above.
As per rules, claims and objections are to be disposed of by the ERO/AERO concerned after the expiry of 7 days.
No name can be deleted from the draft list published on August 1, 2025, without passing a speaking order by the ERO/AERO after conducting an inquiry and giving a fair and reasonable opportunity, the poll panel said.
