The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced significant progress in the ongoing verification of electoral rolls in Bihar. As of July 12, the Commission said it has established direct contact with nearly all electors in the state, with 80.11 percent having already submitted their Enumeration Forms (EFs).
“Out of the total number of electors, 6,32,59,497 or 80.11 per cent — have submitted their EFs, indicating a strong response from the people of Bihar,” the ECI stated in a press note.
To facilitate the collection process, the ECI has deployed 77,895 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), in addition to 20,603 newly appointed BLOs. More than 4 lakh volunteers are also assisting senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PwD), and other vulnerable groups.
The poll panel further reported that BLOs have already digitized and uploaded 4.66 crore Enumeration Forms into ECINet, the newly developed integrated software platform that has consolidated all 40 ECI applications.
Special efforts are being made, the Commission noted, to ensure senior citizens, PwD electors, and vulnerable communities are not left behind in the verification process.
The deadline for EF collection is July 25. The draft electoral rolls will be published on August 1, with the last date for filing claims and objections set for August 30.
The ECI expressed confidence that the majority of EFs will be collected well before the deadline, ensuring the timely and accurate updating of electoral rolls.
