The Bihar government has ordered a statewide physical verification drive of government-aided madrasas, launching a fresh scrutiny exercise focused on institutions receiving financial support from the state. The move, initiated under the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, comes amid the administration’s push to tighten oversight, monitor functioning on the ground and assess whether educational standards are being properly maintained in aided religious institutions across Bihar.

The Education Department has directed district authorities to begin inspections of madrasas that receive state grants, with officials expected to physically examine institutional functioning, infrastructure, and academic activities.

Statewide inspection ordered

In an official communication issued by Education Department Secretary Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, District Education Officers across Bihar have been instructed to carry out physical verification of all government-aided madrasas operating in their respective jurisdictions.

The exercise is aimed at evaluating whether institutions benefiting from state funding are functioning in accordance with prescribed educational norms and administrative guidelines.

Officials said teaching standards, attendance patterns, and the overall functioning of the institutions will come under review during the inspection process.

Block-level committees formed

For the verification process, three-member committees will be constituted at the block level. These teams will conduct field visits, inspect records and submit detailed reports to the authorities after completing the verification exercise.

The government has indicated that the inspection drive is part of a broader effort to strengthen accountability in educational institutions receiving public funds.

Focus on accountability

Officials said the administration wants to ensure that institutions supported through public money maintain proper educational standards and function transparently.

The verification process is also expected to help authorities identify gaps in infrastructure, administration and academic delivery, if any, in the institutions covered under the exercise.
