Prime Minister Tobgay, accompanied by his spouse Aum Tashi Doma and Je Khenpo Trulku Jigme Choedra, the Chief Abbot of Bhutan, is on an official visit to India from September 3 to 6. His visit includes a combination of diplomatic, cultural, and spiritual engagements.
During the visit, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with the Bhutanese leader in New Delhi and extended warm greetings on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Honoured to meet Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India, this evening. We reflected on the progress of the 13th Plan projects supported by the Government of India,” PM Tobgay said.
Discussions between the Bhutanese Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar focused on cooperation in hydropower, connectivity, economic partnership, and people-to-people exchanges.
“We discussed areas of mutual interest, including cooperation in hydropower, connectivity, economic partnership, and people-to-people exchanges. We also shared views on Bhutan’s development priorities such as the Gelephu Mindfulness City, trade facilitation, and cultural linkages,” he added.
Tobgay also visited Nalanda University, where he spoke about the institution’s influence on Bhutan’s spiritual heritage.
“I had the privilege of visiting Nalanda University today. Humbled by its legacy that shaped Bhutan’s Vajrayana traditions, and inspired by students and faculty carrying its spirit forward. I invited them to Bhutan’s Global Peace Prayer Festival this November,” he said.
During his visit, Prime Minister Tobgay and his wife Tashi Doma also paid obeisance at Ram Lalla in Ayodhya. Following Prime Minister Modi, Tobgay becomes the second sitting head of government to visit the revered temple.
