Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hoisted the National Flag at the Clock Tower near the Lal Chowk in Srinagar culminating the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Sunday.

Accompanied by senior Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi, the former Congress president unfurled the flag at 12 noon in presence of thousands of people who joined the Yatra at the Pantha Chowk when it headed towards the Srinagar town in the morning.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu,
Rajya Sabha MPs Randeep Singh Surjewala and Rajni Patil and also Jairam Ramesh were among those attended the programme.

Flag hoisting by Rahul Gandhi has come 75 years after first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru for the first time unfurled the Tricolor in the Lal Chowk, said Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.

Rahul Gandhi resumed his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from Srinagar’s Pantha Chowk on Sunday just before the foot march entered its last day.

Jairam Ramesh tweeted; “Rahul Gandhi was supposed to unfurl the national flag on Jan 30th in the PCC office, since permission to do so elsewhere wasn’t given. Last evening, the State Administration allowed him to do so in Lal Chowk, but under condition that it should be done today on 29th at the end of Bharat Jodo Yatra”.

Earlier in the morning, security forces had a tough time controlling the large number of people who came close to Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka when they resumed the yatra at 10:45 am in his trademark white T-shirt.
Gandhi is scheduled to address a public meeting on Monday in presence of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
