A 26-year-old woman alleged died by suicide in the Parappana Agrahara area of Karnataka’s Bengaluru after speaking to her husband over video call and allegedly confronting him over his “extramarital relationship”.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, IANS reported.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Sanika Gowda, a homemaker. She is said to have taken the extreme step shortly after speaking to her husband, Sharan Gowda, over a video call.
During preliminary investigation in the matter, officials found out that the woman was distressed over her husband’s alleged affair with another woman.
Police sources told IANS that Sharan sent Sanika an audio recording of his conversation with another woman. She got deeply upset after listening to the audio clip.
Later on, she confronted her husband over the video call and then allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her parents’ residence in Rayasandra locality.
Sanika reportedly died by suicide in the presence of her seven-month-old child. Her brother was discovered by her body when he went to check on her room.
According to police officials, the incident took place at around 3 a.m.
Sanika and Sharan, both native of Chikkamagaluru, had been married for approximately one-and-a-half years. She was at her parental home for postnatal care prior to the incident.
In connection with the incident, a case has been registered at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station, while the woman’s body has been shifted to St. John’s Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
