After the resignation of Deputy Mayor of Chandannagar corporation, Munna Agarwal, six councillors have now resigned.
All the six councillors, said to be close associates of previous Chandannagar MLA Indranil Sen, resigned on Friday, May 29.
Before taking the decision to resign, they attended a meeting with Chandannagar Mayor Ram Chakraborty at Chandannagar Rabindra Bhavan on Thursday night. Later on, the six councillors sent their resignation by email to the Commissioner of Chandannagar Corporation.
Meanwhile, the pre-scheduled board meeting was cancelled on Friday.
Mayor Ram Chakraborty said that the board meeting that was supposed to be held as per the rules has been cancelled. The decision regarding the resignation will be announced later.
Chandannagar Assembly includes Chandannagar Corporation, which has 33 wards. Out of these, two wards belong to CPI-M, while the remaining 31 were of TMC.
Chandannagar BJP MLA Dipanjan Guha said, “Those who have worked for Trinamool Congress so long have now realised that the TMC party was anti-people.”
