Bengal govt to launch Swachha App on May 30

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari are all set to launch the ‘Swachha App’ on Saturday, May 30.

Through this new mobile applications, residents in the state will be able to upload geo-tagged photographs and locations of garbage dumps or uncleared waste from any part of a municipality.

Apart from this, they will be able to upload images of any cleanliness and hygiene related issues on the app to register a complaint with the state government.

After the complaint gets registered on the mobile application, the civic authority in that particular region will be required to resolve the matter within two hours, a senior officials of the municipal affairs department said.

West Bengal Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul on Friday said that this app will serve as one of the main weapons designed to ensure cleanliness across the state.

“This app will let residents upload photographs of any issues related to solid waste management, overflowing drains among other things. The Swaccha App will let residents click geo-tagged photographs,” Paul told The Statesman.

She added, “After this the civic body in the area will get two hours to address the problem. Only when the civic team deployed to clear the area uploads a corresponding geo-tagged photograph that shows the fact that the issue is resolved will the complaint get closed”.

In a post on X, Paul wrote that the Swachha App marks a “significant step towards a cleaner, smarter, more transparent and responsive Bengal, empowering citizens to actively participate in improving civic services through technology, accountability and citizen engagement.”
