Bengal braces for ‘stormy’ counting day as IMD predicts thundershowers across all districts on May 4

Bengal weather updates on May 4: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and rain across all districts of West Bengal on Monday, May 4, when counting of votes for the high-stakes assembly elections will take place.

According to the IMD May 4 weather forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely to occur over all districts of south Bengal.

The weather office has issued an orange alert for the state where political temperature is already soaring ahead of Assembly Election 2026 results.

East Burdwan, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Malda, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri are likely to see high-intensity thundershowers.

While the rains could bring a much-needed respite to the people of the state, it could disrupt the counting process in sensitive constituencies although the Election Commission of India (ECI) has made elaborate arrangements.

The ECI has deployed three-tier security, with central forces handling the primary responsibility for the security.

With District Magistrates indicating likely unrest on counting day, the Commission has not yet decided on allowing victory processions.

The exit polls have predicted a BJP clean sweep in the state, which has traditionally been a TMC stronghold.
