The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a Bangladeshi woman living under a false Hindu identity in the Thakurganj area of the state capital.

The woman, whose real name is Nargis, has been living in India for several years under multiple fake identities, under various names like Nirmala and Jasmine. The ATS has also detained her current husband.

An FIR has been filed by Sub-Inspector Ravi Prakash on behalf of the ATS, police said on Monday.

According to investigators, Nargis entered India in 2006 with her first husband through West Bengal. After living in Kolkata for some time, her husband abandoned her, following which she moved across various locations.

From Kolkata, Nargis travelled to UP’s Ballia, where she met Hariom Anand. Introducing herself as Jasmine, she married him following Hindu rituals. After the marriage, the couple moved to Lucknow and lived in Gosainganj. Nargis later accused Hariom of attempting to sell her, prompting her to leave him.

Subsequently, with the help of a cleric, she met Sameer, a resident of Salempur in Kakori. The two got married and settled in the Baroura Hussainbadi locality of Thakurganj in Lucknow. The couple also has an 11-month-old daughter.

In Thakurganj, Nargis continued presenting herself as Nirmala, performing Hindu rituals to avoid suspicion. During the raid, ATS officials recovered two Aadhaar cards and other forged documents under different names.

Authorities are now investigating how the fake identity documents were created and who assisted her in obtaining them.
