Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hoisted the saffron Dhwaj atop the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, marking a historic milestone for the Ram Mandir.
The 22 ft x 11 ft flag, crafted in Ahmedabad by a parachute-fabric specialist under Defence Ministry specifications, was designed to signal the completion of the temple’s main structure. Weighing around 2–3 kg, it has been engineered for the 161-ft shikhar and the 42-ft flagpole.
The ceremony was performed during the Abhijit Muhurat, between 11:52 am and 12:35 pm, as thousands gathered in Ayodhya to witness the Dhwajarohan.

RSS chief says Dhwaj of Ram Rajya has returned to Ayodhya’s shikhar
RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat said the flag associated with Ram Rajya, which once stood high in Ayodhya and symbolised peace and prosperity, has now been placed again on the temple’s peak. “The ‘dhwaj’ of Ram Rajya, which once flew high in Ayodhya and used to spread peace and prosperity to the world, is now seated at its ‘shikhar’ and we witnessed this happening. ‘Dhwaj’ is a symbol…It took time to build the temple. Even if you set aside the 500 years, it did take 30 years…”
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat calls Dhwajarohan a tribute to decades of sacrifice
RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat said the Dhwajarohan marks an emotional moment for all those who dreamt of the Ram Mandir and dedicated their lives to the cause. UP CM Yogi says Ram Mandir reflects ‘140 crore Indians’ faith and self-respect’
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the Ram Mandir stands as a symbol of the faith and dignity of 140 crore Indians. He praised the “karma yogis” who dedicated their lives to the movement and said the saffron flag represents the eternal light of Dharma and the ideals of Ram Rajya. Conch shells and Vedic chants to welcome PM Modi
PM Modi will be received with shankh dhwani, Vedic mantras and temple bells as he enters the Ram Nagari. Local BJP leaders, including MLA Ved Prakash Gupta, have been mobilising people to gather in large numbers. Saints from several temples have also been invited to participate in the welcome.
PM Modi to arrive in Ayodhya at 9:30 AM
Prime Minister Modi will land at Maharshi Valmiki International Airport at around 9:30 a.m. Three military helicopters have been deployed, one carrying the PM and two as part of the security detail. The choppers will then fly to Saket Mahavidyalaya, about 12 km away, where three dedicated helipads have been set up. From there, the PM will enter the temple premises through VIP Gate No 11, known as the Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya Dwar.
Today is Vivah Panchami, a sacred day linked to Ram-Sita wedding
Govind Dev Giri Maharaj said the temple trust examined all favourable dates before choosing November 25, which coincides with Vivah Panchami, the divine day marking the wedding of Bhagwan Ram and Maa Sita. Rituals including havans, chanting of mantras and offerings have been ongoing for several days, beginning from Pratipada and continuing till Panchami.
Dhwajarohan to take place in Abhijit Muhurat
Govind Dev Giri Maharaj confirmed that the flag hoisting will be held in the Abhijit Muhurat during the Kumbh Lagna, between 11:58 am and 1:00 pm. After the Dhwajarohan, PM Modi will tour significant parts of the temple complex, especially the seven temples nearby. A special aarti will follow, and the Prime Minister is expected to address the gathering briefly.
Ayodhya royal flag to fly for the first time since Treta Yuga
The traditional Ayodhya royal flag will be raised officially for the first time since the Treta Yuga. Vaishnav saints finalised the design after studying scriptures. The flag is saffron, symbolising sacrifice and devotion, and carries the emblem of Surya Dev, representing Bhagwan Ram’s Suryavanshi dynasty.

Over 50 LED screens to relay live telecast across Ayodhya
Because not everyone can attend the ceremony in person, the district administration has arranged 50+ LED walls and LED vans across the city, tehsils and blocks. District Information Officer Santosh Dwivedi said the goal is to ensure the ceremony’s visuals reach “every corner of Ayodhya”.
Ayodhya cantonment residents decorate homes ahead of ceremony
Residents of Ayodhya Cantonment have planned to hoist flags atop their homes to mark the historic day. Houses have been decorated, and the city is glowing with multicoloured lights. Many families are preparing to light diyas this evening, creating a Diwali-like atmosphere after the ceremony.
