Congress leader and Kozhikode MP , MK Raghavan on Saturday said the Congress is planning to approach the Parliamentary Committee on Privileges in the Lok Sabha to seek action against the policemen who attacked Vadakara MP, Shafi Paranbil at Perambra on Friday night.
Inaugurating a protest march organised by the United Democratic Front (UDF) before the office of the Inspector-General of Police in Kozhikode on Saturday against the police action against Shafi and UDF workers , MK Raghavan said Congress will seek strong action against the police personnel who led the conspiracy to attack the MP and will approach the Parliamentary Committee on Privileges with this demand
Senior Congress leader and Opposition leader in the Kerala assembly VD Satheesan has reacted strongly against the alleged police brutality against Shafi Parambil, MP .Speaking to media persons in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday , Satheesan said If the police are trying to protect the government and the Chief Minister who are on the defensive in the “Sabarimala gold theft” issue by attacking Shafi Parambil MP and his colleagues, the UDF will respond with strong protests.
He demanded that strong action should be taken against the police personnel who led the conspiracy
Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil suffered injuries in the police action to control a violent clash that broke out between CPM and Congress workers in Perambra on Friday. Shafi Parambil suffered injuries on his nose in the police action that included the use of tear gas and baton charge to control the violent clash between the Congress and BJP workers.
Shafi was later admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode for treatment
Chaos reportedly unfolded when UDF and CPM supporters came face-to-face near Perambra town. The police intervened as heated arguments turned violent and they resorted to lathi charge and tear gas firing to disperse the protesters. Several UDF activists also suffered injuries.
The Perambra police stated that nearly ten police personnel were injured in the clash.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala asked how only one group was injured , if it was a clash
AICC general secretary has alleged that the case by the police over the clash in Perambra against Shafi is an attempt by the government to escape from the Sabarimala “gold theft”.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against Vatakara MP Shafi Parambil and around 700 Congress workers in connection with the violent clashes that broke out during a protest march at Perambra on Friday
According to the police, the UDF workers and leaders on Friday night carried out a rally that obstructed the public way, and when they were stopped, they attacked police personnel with stones to deter them from doing their duty.
A case under sections 189 (unlawful assembly), 191 (rioting), 285 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation), 121 (causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 132 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against Shafi Parambil and around 700 Congress workers.
