Days ahead of the high-stakes West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday held an internal meeting with party workers to discuss the poll campaign.
Addressing the party workers during the crucial election meeting, Banerjee expressed confidence that the TMC will win the Assembly elections with an even bigger mandate than 2021.
“I am putting this on record, TMC’s vote share will shatter all records and cross the 2021 tally,” Banerjee said, adding that the BJP has also realised this.
He further accused the Election Commission of India of working as an extended wing of the BJP and alleged crores of rupees have been spent to create a saffron party wave in the state.
“EC is working as the BJP’s extended wing along with other agencies. A new thing has started that they have spent crores of rupees to create a wave that the BJP is coming to power. Why? 27 lakh people’s names have been deleted and everyone is assuming all of those were TMC voters,” he alleged.
Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s purported remarks in which he warned “TMC goons” to stay inside their homes on April 23, the first phase of voting in Bengal, Banerjee said, “Amit Shah is threatening that on 23rd (day of polling) he will send them back to their houses. Gujarat’s goon is threatening Bengalis. We didn’t bow down to British; who are these Bohiragotos (outsiders)?”
He also slammed the BJP-led central government over the arrest of Vinesh Chandel, co-founder of I-PAC, alleging that the saffron party is using agencies to threaten the TMC.
“BJP is using agencies to threaten us, but these things will make us stronger,” Banerjee added.
The TMC and the BJP are engaged in a high-octane political battle to win the upcoming Assembly elections in Bengal. The polls will be held in two phases – April 23 and April 29 – and the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
