Assets of more PFI leaders attached in Kerala

The Kerala Government on Saturday confiscated assets of more PFI leaders in many places 3 days after the High Court gave an ultimatum for it.

The State Government started the process to confiscate the properties of many PFI leaders to compensate the losses that incurred during the hartal call by the proscribed outfit in September last year.

Ten cents of land owned by M M Raziq of Pamburuthi; 33 cents of land belonging to Vayoth Harun of Thriprangottur; 9.83 cents of land owned by M P Sameer of Mokeri were attached on Saturday. These are in addition to  the attachment of 92.34 cents of land from Peedikayullathil Thahir of Puliyanam Bram and a car owned by Sameer of Pullookkara.

 In Kannur district, the authorities attached the assets of 8 PFI leaders and cadres. The attachment of properties belonging to PFI workers, Naushad and  KV Naushad were completed while, Naushad’s 5 cent land in Mavila and KV Naushad’s 2.5 cent land in Kadambur  in Kannur taluk has been confiscated by the revenue authorities.

In Kasaragod, the land and assets of Chandragiri Charitable Trust, where the PFI district committee office was functioning was confiscated.

According to sources, the attachment of properties of 23 PFI leaders and workers in Kozhikode completed and in Malappuram district, the assets of around 100 PFI leaders and cadres have been attached by the revenue authorities.

On Friday, properties of around 60 PFI leaders and cadres were confiscated in 14 districts in the State. The  Kerala High Court has  issued  orders to realise Rs 5.20 crore from PFI  leaders and activists as compensation  for vandalising the public property during the hartal called by the outlawed organisation on 23 September last year.

The house and 12 cents of land owned by former PFI State General Secretary, A Abdul Sathar were attached on Friday at Puthiyakavu in Karunagappally in Kollam.

In Wayanad district, properties of 14 former PFI leaders in Edavaka, Mananthavady, Vellamunda, Anjukunnu, Nalloornad, Muttil South, Nenmeni and Kuppadithara villages were attached.

According to the officials, the details about the confiscated properties   will be handed over to the Land Revenue Commissioner. Land Revenue Commissioner T V Anupama asked the District Collectors to finish the attachment proceedings by Saturday.

Earlier last month, the Kerala Government tendered unconditional apology before the High Court for the delay in confiscating the properties of the leaders of the  banned Popular Front of India (PFI)  to recover the loss of property  that happened  in the state-wide shutdown called by the outfit on  23 September.

Following the violent incidents, the High Court registered a suo motu case and directed police to make leaders of the PFI who made hartal call accused in all hartal -related cases. It also gave instructions to all courts that the arrested should not be released on bail till they deposit damages incurred during the shutdown.
