The Elections Commission of India has announced the dates for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. The voting in four states and a Union Territory will be held between April 9 and April 29, with counting of votes taking place for all five states and Union Territories taking place on the same day – May 4.

While elections in West Bengal will be held in two phases, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territory of Puducherry will go to polls in a single phase.
The 126 Assembly constituencies of Assam will go to poll on April 9, and the counting of votes will take place on May 4. The gazette notification for the first phase will be issued on March 16, with the last date for filing nominations on March 23, scrutiny on March 24, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature on March 26.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said that 17.4 crore voters will be eligible to cast their votes at 2.19 lakh polling stations across West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
The end of the term of the Assam assembly is on 20th May.
Announcing the poll schedule, CEC Gyanesh Kumar said that “the commission, along with lakhs of election officials and security personnel, is committed for ensuring free, fair, transparent, accessible and peaceful elections.”
