The Army was deployed in Dholpur on Thursday to assist the district administration in rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected areas of the eastern Rajasthan district.
A similar flood-like situation prevailed in Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and parts of Tonk and Kota districts, as relentless rain continued to disrupt normal life across several districts of the state.
The Chambal river remained swollen, with the water level nearly 12 metres above the danger mark. The surging river was flowing at 141.10 metres around 10:00 PM on Wednesday. Since then, the water level has risen by another 2 metres as of Thursday, submerging the Old Chambal Bridge in Dholpur city under the overflowing stream.
As the situation worsened, District Collector Srinidhi BT, sensing its seriousness, sought assistance from the Army on Wednesday night. Army rescue teams arrived in the town on Thursday.
Meanwhile, rescue and relief operations by various agencies, including the SDRF, Civil Defence, Police, and local residents, continued in several water-marooned villages on the outskirts of the city, as well as in the Rajakheda and Sarmathura regions.
Likewise, the spate in the Banas River has wreaked havoc in several villages, low-lying areas, and parts of the Ranthambhore Sanctuary in Sawai Madhopur district. Rescue teams are working overtime to evacuate people from various flooded locations. Since Wednesday, around 100 stranded villagers have been rescued.
Rains have disrupted life in several other cities, including Sikar, Alwar, Tonk, Bundi, and even Jaipur.
School classes remained suspended in several districts such as Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Sawai Madhopur. Schools in these areas will remain closed until August 2.
