The nomination papers filed by Morpal Suman (ruling BJP), Pramod Jain Bhaya (Congress), Rampal Meghwal (BJP- Rebel) and Naresh Meena (IND) for the bypolls in the Anta assembly seat of the Baran district of Rajasthan, found in order and valid in the scrutiny on Thursday.
However, the nomination submitted by Urmila Jain Bhaya (IND) as the Congress nominee’s covering candidate was rejected in the scrutiny. Now, 20 candidates are left in the fray for the seat that would go to polls on November 11.
The withdrawals could be made by October 27, that would only present a clear picture and the poll prospects on the assembly seat that was won in December 2023 assembly polls by the BJP.
However, two Independents BJP rebels, Rampal Meena and Naresh Meena, if not withdrawn from the fray, will make the contest difficult for both the BJP as well as the Congress.
Meghwal is a former BJP MLA from the Attu-Baran seat (2013 -2018), the ruling party state president Madan Rathore had already cautioned him to withdraw or face expulsion from the party.
The by-election here is necessitated due to disqualification of the BJP winner(2023) Kanwar Lal Meena in an old criminal case.
