In a tragic incident, at least nine people were killed after a bus overturned on the ghat road between Chinturu and Bhadrachalam in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district earlier today. Several other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Bhadrachalam Hospital for treatment, ASR District Collector Dinesh Kumar said.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. In a post on X, he said he had directed officials to extend all necessary support to the affected families.
“The accident involving a private bus carrying passengers in Alluri Sitarama Raju has deeply shaken us. It is heartbreaking that several lives were lost. I have spoken to officials and reviewed the assistance being provided. Directions have been issued to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care. The government will stand by the families of those who lost their loved ones,” Naidu wrote.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the deaths caused by the bus accident. He wrote on X: “Pained by the loss of lives due to a bus mishap in the Alluri Sitarama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”
Authorities are working to identify the victims and determine the cause of the crash. Further details are awaited.
