Upping the ante against the ruling Congress government, BJP chief Amit Shah will unleash a pro-Hindutva blitzkrieg in poll-bound Karnataka with visits to temples and the homes of victims of ‘communal killings’.

Shah arrived in the state on Monday for his three-day tour and held a series of public meetings and rallies.

However, the highlight of his tour will be his visit to the home of Deepak Rao and Paresh Mehta and the many prominent temples.

On Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President is scheduled to visit the home of Deepak Rao, a BJP worker who was killed in January followed by a meeting with the kin of Paresh Meshta on Wednesday, who too is a victim of communal killing, the BJP has claimed.

He is also scheduled to address a fishermen convention in Udupi.

The coastal Karnataka belt is a communally sensitive region and the BJP has in the past raked up issues like PFI activism and protection of Hindus to consolidate Hindu votes.

Meanwhile, Shah will also be visiting prominent temples including the Kukke Subramanya temple, the Udupi Krishna temple and the Gokarna temple.

In Udupi, Shah will hold a dialogue with seers of some of the major temples.

Karnataka is likely to go to the polls in April-May and the BJP has been making concerted efforts to wrest it from the Congress.

It is the only big state– which sends 20 or more MPs to the Lok Sabha– being ruled by the Congress.

On Monday, at a function to flag off a new train, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Siddaramaiah government of non-performance, calling it a “government of  commission”.

“What do you need? A government of commission or a government of mission? A government which asks for 10 per cent commission to work or a government which works with the mission for development?” the Prime Minister said.

The Chief Minister responded with a tweet, that took a dig at the Central government over the Rs. 11,300-crore fraud in the Punjab National Bank linked to celebrity jeweller Nirav Modi.
