Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with BJP National President JP Nadda paid tribute to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya here Thursday on the occasion of his 109th birth anniversary.

To mark the occasion, the two leaders planted a sapling at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park, which is situated right across the road of BJP headquarters in the national capital.

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya (1916-1968), a prominent political thinker, economist, and leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (1953-1968), is remembered for his philosophy of Integral Humanism (Ekatma Manav Darshan).

Upadhyaya was also a dedicated organiser and leader who set high standards of personal purity and dignity in public life.

Since the inception of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he has been regarded as its ideological guide and a source of moral inspiration.

His political philosophy of Integral Humanism offered an alternative to traditional ideologies and continues to shape the BJP’s approach to governance.

Upadhyaya, who became president of the Jana Sangh in December 1967, also pioneered the monthly magazine Rashtra Dharma, the weekly Panchajanya and the daily Swadesh.

His 109th birth anniversary provided an opportunity for the party and its leaders to reaffirm their commitment to his ideals and honour his enduring legacy in Indian politics.

Earlier in the day, Nadda participated in a cleanliness drive organised under the ongoing Sewa Pakhwada initiative, and urged citizens to participate in the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign to build a ‘clean and green’ India.

“On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, at the call of the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I participated in the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) – 2025’ campaign under the ‘Seva Pakhwada’ in New Delhi,” Nadda, posted on X.

“I urge every citizen to actively participate in this campaign and contribute to building a clean, healthy, and green India for all,” he added.
