Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday met US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor here and held detailed discussions on strengthening India-US security cooperation, especially in counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics domain.
Shah stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the nation is committed to advancing the India-US comprehensive global partnership and that the country is committed to ensuring that the people of both the nations benefit from the bilateral relationship.
In a post on social media platform X, Shah wrote, “Met U.S. Ambassador to India, Mr. Sergio Gor in New Delhi today. Had a detailed discussion on further strengthening cooperation between India and the U.S. in the area of security, particularly in counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics.”
Ambassador Gor called the meeting excellent and fruitful on enhancing collaboration in the fight against terrorism, shielding people from the menace of narcotics and illicit drugs.
The collaboration will also go further with regard to securing borders and bringing the criminals to justice in both the countries, he added.
The meeting between Shah and US Ambassador took place after substantive talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald J Trump on trade, regional security, and deepening economic partnership on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
The two leaders reviewed the substantial progress achieved under the India–US COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce and Technology) since their meeting in Washington D.C. in February 2025. They noted with particular satisfaction the significant progress made in negotiations towards an interim Bilateral Trade Agreement and instructed their officials to work towards a balanced, mutually beneficial, and commercially meaningful agreement at the earliest.
