Amid the ongoing tussle between the LDF government and Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar over the appointment of vice-chancellors in various universities in the state, the Kerala cabinet Wednesday approved a draft ordinance to amend the clauses related to the appointment of the vice-chancellor of the Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology Act, 2021.

The draft ordinance seeks to amend sub-sections (3), (4) and (6) of section 11 in accordance with the UGC Rules, 2018 and recent court orders. The cabinet meeting held on Wednesday decided to forward the draft to the Governor for promulgation.

If the Governor obliges and approves the ordinance, it will change the composition of the Search-cum-Selection Committee that will scout for the vice-chancellor.
