Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Friday met interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi to discuss the party’s organisational issues.

Kamal Nath arrived at the residence of the UPA chairperson around 10.40 am. The meeting between the two leaders lasted over 45 minutes.

The meeting comes amid reports of a rift between the CM and Jyotiraditya Scindia over who will head Congress in the state.

Calling it a “fruitful discussion as always”. Nath said, “I met Sonia Gandhiji today to discuss several things. We talked about the party organisation in Madhya Pradesh”.

Dismissing speculations of trouble between the two leaders, Kamal Nath, who is the state Congress chief, said that he “doesn’t feel that Jyotiraditya Scindia is unhappy”.

The appointment of a new state chief was also discussed in his meeting with Sonia Gandhi.

Kamal Nath has offered to step down as the state unit chief following Congress’ drubbing in the Lok Sabha elections.

According to reports, Jyotiraditya Scindia, a former Madhya Pradesh MP, had given the party high command ultimatum to make him head of the Madhya Pradesh unit, or else, he would “look for other options”.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Ashok Dangi from Datia in Madhya Pradesh has issued a press note saying that if Scindia is kept away from state politics then he along with 500 others will resign from the party.

In Madhya Pradesh, the Nath-led Congress government is holding onto a wafer-thin majority.
