“He was shot around 3 am. We’ve taken a few suspects into custody,” ANI quoted Amethi SP as saying.  According to Additional Superintendent of Police Daya Ram, Singh was shot at by bike-borne assailants while he was sleeping outside his house. He succumbed to his injuries while on his way to a hospital in Lucknow.

Singh was instrumental in Smriti Irani’s history-defining victory over Congress President Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.

Irani lost no time in reaching Amethi to meet the family of Surendra Singh and participated in his cremation. She even carried the bier on her shoulders.

She told his family members that they were her responsibility and she would take care of them and asked party workers to exercise restraint.
