Police in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district on Saturday arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly acting as a sleeper cell operative for a Pakistan-based terrorist, officials said.

A police spokesperson, quoting Hanumangarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Meena, identified the accused as Krish Rai alias Shaan.

According to the police, he had been in contact with Pakistan-based terrorist Shahzaad Bhatti through WhatsApp and Instagram and allegedly shared sensitive information with him.

The spokesperson said the accused had allegedly sent photographs and location details of police stations in Hanumangarh to the terrorist.

Police suspect that the two were planning subversive activities in the border district, which lies close to the India-Pakistan international border.

According to the spokesperson, the SP received a tip-off on June 24 regarding Krish’s suspicious activities. Acting on the information, teams from the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), District Special Team (DST), Cyber Cell and the local police placed him under surveillance.

During the surveillance, investigators allegedly gathered material indicating a prima facie case against him, following which he was arrested on Saturday.

The accused is currently being subjected to intensive interrogation by the police and other security agencies.

Krish Rai is a native of Bihar’s Darbhanga district. His family migrated to Hanumangarh about 30 years ago, police said.
