A youth allegedly overpowered armed assailants and snatched a pistol from one of them after they allegedly attempted to attack him over an old rivalry in Jalandhar’s Rama Mandi area, police said. The entire incident, including the alleged surveillance of the victim’s house, was captured on CCTV cameras, following which a complaint was lodged with the police.
According to the complaint, the incident took place in Joginder Nagar when Shivam, a resident, was on his way to a gym. He alleged that he had been involved in a dispute with some youths about a year ago, which was later settled through a compromise. However, he claimed the rival group continued to harbour a grudge.
Shivam alleged that before he left home, three youths were seen conducting surveillance outside his residence, a movement that was noticed by his father, who immediately alerted him. He further claimed that while he was heading towards a gym in Laddewali, four youths intercepted him and one of them allegedly attempted to attack him with a pistol.
The complainant alleged that he resisted the attackers and managed to snatch the firearm from one of them during the scuffle. He further claimed that shortly afterwards, family members of the accused reached the spot and allegedly took back the pistol before leaving the scene.
Shivam’s father, Sohan Lal, alleged that although the earlier dispute between the two sides had been resolved through a compromise involving ₹50,000, the accused continued to nurture hostility. He claimed the suspects first monitored the family’s movements outside their house before allegedly trying to attack his son with the weapon.
A complaint has been submitted to the Surya Enclave police station. Police have initiated an investigation and are examining the CCTV footage to verify the sequence of events and identify those involved. No official statement regarding arrests or the registration of an FIR had been issued till the filing of this report.
