In a significant judgement, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High court stayed the merger of primary schools in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh till August 21.

However, it did not give a stay to the merger process in other districts. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 21.

The Opposition was constantly criticizing the decision of the state government to merge schools.

Earlier, a single bench of the court refused to stay the government move.

The division bench headed by Chief Justice Arun Bhasali and Justice Jaspreet Singh gave the instruction on the status quo in the Sitapur district.

Advocate of the petitioner in the case Amarendra Patel said the high court has stayed the merger of schools in Sitapur.

The petitioner said the government was continuously claiming that the merger is necessary for the better future of children but when the court asked what they did for this, the government’s lawyer could not give a concrete answer. To this, the court reprimanded the government and fixed the next date for hearing the case.
